October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
GET INVOLVED – DO SOMETHING.
You may have noticed a changed to the banner on our blog.
Through the month of October, we’ll be spending a little time each day on social media (#breastcancer hashtag), doing our part to raise awareness about breast cancer. We’ll be encouraging others to take a little time in October to do something to help the cause:
- Donate time or money,
- Run a race, or
- Help someone dealing with cancer today.
It’s surprising how many of us have a mother, sister, wife, friend, or loved one who has been affected by cancer. For our company, the issue is very personal. In April of 2010, the mother of our founder, diagnosed with breast cancer just a few years before, died of cancer at the young age of 69.
During her treatment, Liz spent time working at our offices at 25 Science Park before and after medical appointments, sometimes before chemotherapy treatments. She brought in cookies she’d baked, chatted with us, and had a smile for each and every one of us, without fail. In spite of the challenges, she showed great courage in the face of her disease, and never lost hope.
She was an example for all of us – entrepreneurship isn’t as tough as fighting cancer, but how someone faces it can be an inspiration to any entrepreneur.
In November, our founder, Derek, will be running the Philadelphia marathon as a memorial to Liz, and will be directing donations in support of the run to the Get In Touch foundation, a group focusing on early detection and education for girls.
This month, we hope to make a difference in the fight. We hope you will too. Get involved. Do something.
