Become Your Own Technical Cofounder
Are you an entrepreneur with a great idea for a software product, or a service that is “software-enabled”? If you are, you may have come to the conclusion that it is really, really hard to find a co-founder who can code. And without working knowledge of how software is built, you may even find it hard to hire a freelancer or firm to help you. More than a few startup ideas have died on the vine for this very reason.
What’s a founder to do? We recommend taking the bull by the horns by learning to code.
Program, or Be Programmed
In the Fall of 2012, in New Haven, we’ll be offering a class in Front End Development designed for founders and others with no prior programming knowledge called “Become Your Own Technical Co-Founder.” For 10 weeks, about 20 participants will spend two nights a week learning to code from an experienced instructor. (You will produce *working code* in these classes). Each class will cover fundamental tools of front-end development, and focus on practical, hands-on work that builds skills and knowledge.
OK, Where Do I Sign Up?!
You can find more details on the program and an application here.
One common question – is there a cost to take part? Although the full price of the course is $3,000, we’re offering a limited number of scholarships that will cover almost the entire cost of the program (support provided by United Illuminating Company and Southern Connecticut Gas, Economic Development Corporation of New Haven, and Independent Software).
Why provide scholarships? We believe that investing in talent will build a stronger startup community, help ventures move forward, and make New Haven a great source of development talent in the future. This is just one way we’re making that happen.
How Do I Apply?
If you want to apply, just click here – we’ll announce specific program dates and schedules in the future as we grant scholarships. And when you’ve acquired those development skills, plan on attending Startup Weekend New Haven 2012 (coming up Nov. 9th-11th) to put those skills to use!
